Vocations in the Church

'Vocation' -  /vo·ca·tion/ [voh-key-shuhn] noun

  • A specified occupation, profession, or trade.
  • A special urge, inclination, or predisposition to a particular calling or career, especially a religious one.

General Vocations / Holy Orders Information

  • The Holy Catholic Church (HCC) is divided into two distinct Dioceses.
  • Please select the Vocations Director for your State.
  • Our clergy are ordained within apostolic succession.
  • We celebrate the seven sacraments.
  • We ordain men and women 21 years of age or older.
  • We accept men and women who wish to enter into religious vows.
  • Individuals who are married are welcome!
  • Our priests and religious live ecclesially (on their own or in small groups) and receive no salary or monetary support from the national church. Almost all have jobs in their local communities.
  • Any information we receive from you will remain confidential but will be shared with the members of the vocations team. (Vocation teams are made up of clergy and specially selected lay members.)
  • After an initial contact with the Bishop basic questions can/will be answered and a vocations application will be forwarded.
  • Being turned down or discouraged by other denominations doesnot automatically exclude you from ministry within the HCC.
  • Remember our motto: "The stone which the builder rejected will be our cornerstone"

Things to consider on your journey...

Where are you going and do you know how to get there? Here are four simple steps to help you find direction:

  1. Pray for direction, spend time in a quiet place.
  2. Talk with others, consider your gifts, seek direction from your pastor or priest, a parent, or a spiritual guide.
  3. Listen to your feelings -- do you know where you find discomfort, or what brings you discouragement? Where do you find satisfaction? What brings you peace and joy?
  4. Above all, trust in who you are and know that God loves you and wants the best for you!

If you feel God may be calling you to ministry. Pray about it then do something about it!

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:9-11)

I'd like an application please!

Request an application today via the link above. Provide an e-mail or postal address you prefer to be contacted at, and we will contact you only once to make sure you received the application. We will respect your need for discernement. If you wish to begin a dialogue or have any questions, we would be happy to communicate with you on a more regular basis.

Your application and information contained therein remain strictly confidential. The application is shared only with members of the vocations team. An application typically takes 4 - 6 weeks to process and must include a non-refundable money order for $100.00 to conduct a background check. If this is a financial hardship, it can be waived on a case by case basis, but the background and references check are done on everyone. Past difficultites and issues of concern do not automatically exclude someone, unless the issue(s)/concern(s) constitue an impediment to ordination. This is decided by a bishop.

You must be actively involved volunterring or in a ministry to those in need. Some people by nature of their job or occupation meet this requirement. Ordinations usually take 6 - 18 months based on the training and experience of candidates. Training continues after ordination as well.

Remember that we live ecclesially. We have our own separarte apartments and hold lay jobs to support ourselves and our ministries. We are not paid by or funded by the national Church. You must be fully aware of of who we are and what we believe, to assure that this is your proper spiritual home.

We pray that you will decide to journey with us!
